Computer Time with our Learning Buddies

Once a cycle we spend time with our learning buddies from mr. b's grade 4/5 class. Sometimes we read to each other, sometimes we have play time and other times they teach us new things about technology! These young minds know much more then I do!

Room 3's Recycling Instruments

As we have been learning about the 3 r's Reduce, Reuse, Recycle, we have been discussing the many ways we can reuse items. We started with using pasta jars to plant flowers in! And today we completed our final project - making instruments! We started by talking about the design process which involved each of us deciding what instrument we wanted to make. Then we had to list all the things we would need and finally draw a picture and explain the type of sound we hoped it would make. The design process was fun to watch but a little overwhelming for some as they just wanted to get right into creating their instruments. Today we re-looked our design plan and began creating! Here are the pics of our musical instruments.

Handwriting without Tears - The Handwriting Without Tears® curriculum draws from years of innovation and research to provide developmentally appropriate, multisensory tools and strategies for your classroom. The program follows research that demonstrates children learn more effectively by actively doing, with materials that address all styles of learning.

Our class has been using many parts of the Handwriting Without Tears curriculum this year and this week we started in our Letters and Numbers for Me printing books.  We focused on the Frog Jump Letters (F, E, D, P, B, R, M, N)  On Friday we did a review page which the students have brought home so they can teach you how to make your letters starting at the TOP.  I have been so impressed with how well they are doing in our whole group mini lessons and individual printing books!  Next week we will be moving on to Corner Capitals (letters that start in the top corner - H, K, L, U, V).  Encourage your child to use the words when printing their letters.
For example: F is Big line down, frog jump up, litlel line, little line
